If I had to pick one of this month's 20 topics to write not only a blog post but a book about - it would be this one. I'm a dreamy person when I'm awake. Not so much at night because sleep and I aren't best friends. If I do have night dreams I usually just remember fragments that don't make sense like
I rented a bike and forgot where I was supposed to return it
I drive (or I am the passenger), and we get in trouble like we can't stop
I meet people I haven't been in touch with in forever
Early 2000s, one of Linda's last days in Switzerland before moving abroad. She and her best friend Jason were spending the day exploring the city.
Well, part exploring, part saying goodbye. She grew up in the area and had never lived further away than a neighbour state. "That was great! Why didn't I ever go on a ferris wheel ride while I was living here?"
Who hasn't had to answer dreaded questions about strengths and weaknesses and where you see yourself in 5 or 10 years' time in job interviews? I really hate those questions, and that's why I don't ask them when I'm the interviewer.
Yesterday's theme was Stress, today we're talking about
No worries, though, tomorrow will be more uplifting, I promise! I'll even try and keep this one as light as possible. I am not a worrier as such, and I often try to tell my husband who likes to hope for the best but expect the worst to stop thinking about what might go wrong - he may actually spook it, you know? As in you asked for it.
While I feel I could write a book about the subject, many others have done so and provided solutions which I can't. I am very grateful that in my current life I don't have many stress causing factors. This hasn't always been the case.
Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once, and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.
My words are:
frost ~ snowflakes ~ cold ~ blues ~ hockey ~ championship
They were submitted bySpatulas on Parade- thanks, Dawn! (And thanks, Karen, for perfectly aligning the stars!) Now of course I was doing a happy dance while everyone else in here would probably go "sh**! What am I supposed to do with that?" I haven't always been a fan of ice hockey.
and it's a sequel of Philadelphia and Blue. Almost two years have passed. Linda and her husband are sitting on a bench at Pier 39 watching their toddler running up and down the wheelchair / stroller ramp. At first he thought it was a slide.
Oh my goodness, this prompt makes me feel old! I associate those words with a beach party in Brazil, probably following a carnival parade. Girls in skimpy bikinis - if any - long hair and pouty lips surrounded by hot guys with six-pack abs and passionate eyes. Samba is being played, and Caipirinhas are being slurped, everybody is rollicking.
Linda had still not encountered any violin playing angels, not even the singing kind, instead she was struggling. Although they gave her two units of blood infusions she felt weak and depleted. The nurses assured her she was healing nicely down there, but she was convinced she could never sit on a chair again.
Hm, I guess it depends on what kind of winter you need a break from. If it is the cold, grey, foggy and depressing kind, then I'd probably like to escape to a warmer place. Think the Maldives where your only issue of the day is to decide whether to go left (water area), right (spa and gym) or to the opposite direction (bar):
People love to nickname other people and things in their lives. Probably everyone had at least one nickname at school, on the sports team, at work, from their spouse,... Some are adulterations or abbreviations of the first name, some describe their qualities (smart, quick, good shooter) or refer to their features (tall, redhead, freckles) Some are pet names, some have a slang character, and some are so unique that they're widely known. Let's see how you do:
Welcome to January's Secret Subject Swap. Again 12 brave bloggers picked a secret subject for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our posts.
Here are links to all the sites now featuring Secret Subject Swap posts.
As I announced, I am participating in A 'lil HooHaa's 20 Days of Chill - so I will post every week day in January about random topics. Today's prompt is
Linda startled. She wasn't even aware she had fallen asleep. What was that noise? It came from down the street. Grinding, grating, dragging sounds. There it was again. Scary. Should she get up to try and see what was going on down there? Was she even able to get up on her own? Should she call a nurse? Wouldn't that be kind of ridiculous? She should mind her own business. Linda grabbed her phone. 3:58 am. She should go back to sleep. Her new baby was going to wake her up soon enough. Her baby.
Welcome to Top Ten Thursday and Happy New Year! Wow, a brand new 2017!
The first Top Ten Thursday of this year is an opportunity to look ahead and think of the things we want to achieve this year, be it in our job, around the house, health-wise,...
God knows I need to get in better shape! Let's go!
Lose weight! 10kg would be great, 15 even better. That's 20 - 30 pounds. I don't worry too much about weight (even though I'm probably where I was before giving birth, ouch, but I worry about not fitting into my fat jeans anymore.
Eat no chocolate, no cookies, no cake and drink no wine for at least the month of January
Get some exercise, even it it's just walking
Keep up the purging, I need to file my 2016 (and while I'm at it, 2015,...)
Volunteer at our village's activity society. I signed up to do a scavenger hunt at their 15 years anniversary convention
If something won't have a place to live, I won't purchase it. Did you hear that, IKEA?
Spend less time on social media. Geez the time I'm gonna save!
Speaking of saving. This is the year I need a major decrease in spending money!
Simplify chores in favour of more me-time for writing
Oh my goodness, that is ridiculous! Everything I ever learned about goal setting went down the drain. "Do more of X, less of Y" is BS. It needs to be specific, measurable and a couple of other things. I am not good at this. I hate to commit to things I don't like doing. Guys, I wrote this about a week ago. This is what it looks like today: I did well because I didn't spend much money, and I allowed myself to write instead of un-decorating. I think my breathing was OK as well. Everything else, especially #1-3 and 7? Let's just say, there are still 51 weeks left to make up for it... 😂
How about you? What are your plans and goals? Tell us about them in the comments below or link up using the tool! I will need to take a break from Top Ten Thursday in favour of 20 Days of Chill. We'll be back on February 2nd to deal with a difficult topic: friends breaking up. You've been friends with that couple for a long time, now they've decided to go different ways. Our post will contain the top then things (not) to do or say! Go! The week after we're watching a movie! I ask you to pick one of the following movies and "analyse" it. Choose ten scenes from that one movie. Scenes of which you think they are surprising, interesting, odd, fun, questionable, or just wrong, and talk about them:
The Wedding Planner
When Harry met Sally
Sleepless in Seattle
Analyse this / that
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Any James Bond movie starring Sean Connery
Got it? Wonderful. Can't wait for that one. It posts on February 9. Sign up here.
As I announced, I am participating in A 'lil HooHaa's 20 Days of Chill - so I will post every week day in January about random topics. Today's prompt we got is
All righty. I like to take pictures, and I take lots of them. I love to capture special (even ordinary) moments. I would do so even if I wasn't blogging. I guess it's in my DNA. My Mom is a huge photographer. She made herself quite a name over the years. People are getting married? A new baby is born? There is an official event taking place at our town? They call my Mom to cover it. I don't have her eye, her talent or her equipment. I don't know a thing about focal length, shutter speed, exposure, ISO etc. Most times I don't even bother to haul my real camera and just snap phone pictures. Shame on me. I also do some video taping. Probably my most photographed subject is my son and all the activities we do, followed by food. You can't gain weight just by looking at a picture of a donut, right? Just a couple (can you see how well P. J. Hammer trained me? There are five pictures!Five!) of random shots I took these last dew days: A cool Christmas gift: Tetris lamp. You can arrange the individual pieces as you please - as long as they're all connected, the light is on! Did you enjoy playing Tetris? I was an addict!!!
We went to see "Sing" at the movies. I liked it. Kind of a 2010s version of Fame, Flashdance, Chorus Line and the like. Right up my alley. On our way in we met Batman.
Our special wine on NYE: straight from Wayne Gretzky's Estate Winery Got it from the wonderful Canadian Store. It came in a nice gift pack, one white Chardonnay and one red Cabernet Merlot, both very nice. As a bonus they've attached a puck signed by #99, the Great one.
Home made Dinner for One, actually there were five of us. Is Dinner for One popular outside of Europe?
My "living room office" today as I'm writing this. Had to escape hubby's mood he's in when he's filing his stacks and stacks of documents and cleaning up cr**
PS: What good is a limit of five if you can't show a bonus picture...? Two nights before publishing day we got some snow and we've been living in winter wonderland! Is this pretty or what?
So what about you? Were you a Tetris player? Do you watch Dinner for one every NYE? Are you a picture taker?
Thanks for dropping by - see you tomorrow! The topic will be "I found a ball". If you have a minute, also check out my blogger mates' contributions!
