UBC October 2025 - Trains, Temptations, and Temporary Housing Plans

Just like the day before, we had to cover quite a few miles, so there’s not much to tell. Except that hubby, a lifelong train enthusiast, discovered that our route passed through York — home to the National Railway Museum. And according to him, there is always time for trains.

As for me, I found out there was a designer outlet just a few miles away, and that’s where I was dropped off. Almost like daycare!

Not the smartest idea for a girl with zero space left in her suitcase to transport potential bargains. But sometimes the universe helps in surprising ways:

I approached the matter with the clear motto “just look, don’t touch.” There weren’t many items calling my name anyway; most of the clothes were short-sleeved or otherwise summery.

There were, however, the most adorable light pink UGG boots at a very attractive price. It took a bit of restraint, but my reasonable voice won.

I joined a few Guys for a bunless burger (you know whom I mean) and then retired to one of the comfy public seats, the kind usually reserved for tired husbands waiting for their shopaholic mates. For a moment, I thought about catching up on this UBC, but my reasonable voice whispered again: research London accommodation instead. And it’s a good thing I did. Geez, the prices! Ouch!

As a more affordable alternative, we might just hide in a changing room here at the mall, wait for closing time, and sleep on the sofa I was sitting on.

Fortunately, we already had a hotel for tonight in Newcastle upon Tyne. More about it in a few days.

When is the last time you have been tempted by a great bargain you knew you couldn’t (or shouldn’t) buy?

  2. I did love riding the train for the creativity teacher graduation in 2015 ...

The lettuce wrap looks yummy! My grandkids have a few favorite places that offer gluten free fries (nothing breaded cooked in the fryer) and either GF buns or lettuce wraps!

There were some lovely refreshed cashmere sweaters at the Hood River Harvest Festival earlier in the month - hand dyed in luscious tones - thrifted so each was unique ... sigh.

  3. Sounds like you truly enjoyed yourself even though you didn't get those adorable light pink ughs. I would have found a way to fit them in one of my bags.

  5. Tempted? All the time! But I'm getting better at talking myself out of them. :) I'm just realizing you're actually out of town right now!! I thought you were writing about a summer trip.
