October Secret Subject Swap - If you could re-write your story, what would you change?

Welcome to Take Two of October’s Secret Subject Swaps. This week 12 brave bloggers picked a secret subject for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our posts.

If you could re-write your story, what would you change?

It was submitted by Discovering Me. Here goes:

I wouldn't change a thing.

Bahahaha, that was easy. Next subject!

OK. seriously. I am happy where I am now and how I got here. I think I made mainly good choices in my life. And when things went wrong, I took action. Plus I have been lucky so far. So what good is "shoulda, woulda, coulda" going to do?

For the sake of it, let's dig into alternate lives.

It's about coincidence - if there is such a thing at all. And it's about what you do with the lemons that life hands you.

My life, randomly re-written - some elements were or could have been true:

I am at the verge of dropping out of college when I discover I am pregnant. The father of the baby doesn't like law school and becomes a stay at home dad. He firmly believes that kids should only play with toys made out of natural materials. Well, good, give the kid some branches and leaves, because the money I make as an unexperienced secretary doesn't allow purchasing remote controlled racing cars or dolls that talk and pee, and neither supports his smoking habit. He resents my "freedom" when I leave the house in the morning. We fight a lot. He moves out. I am now an overwhelmed single working mother. My parents help out while I recover at an institution and paint a lot. But they don't hold back with comments like "didn't we tell you to get a decent job, travel and enjoy life before settling down with a nice man?"

That didn't work out so well. Let's see what Plan B holds.

I take my mother's advice to heart. She must know. She moved out of her parent's place, got married and had me, and all before her 22nd birthday. So I do well in school and get this fast paced management job that includes lots of business traveling. Just how decent are 12 hours' days and 6 days' weeks, BS meetings, budget cuts, back stabbing..?

The only place to meet someone is work, so I date a top shot sales guy from my start-up firm. That is until he tells me he needs a time-out and wants to explore South America with a backpack and a tent. Later I learn about an old friend whom he shares his sleeping bag with.

Hasta la vista!

go all Bridget Jones for a while, c'mon, sing with me:

"aaaaalllllllll by myyyyyyself!"

I give up on relationships and turn my back to the corporate world. My biological clock ticks softer and softer until I become the cat lady who reads poems to blind people.

Too depressing?

This blog post is fun. Game over? No problem, insert coin, play again! Do better next time!

I go in and out of hospitals trying to beat leukemia. I know what they mean when they tell you that life is short and you should make it meaningful. To hell with school and suffocating jobs.

I play and win the lottery!
I send some to the White House - can't let the U.S. go bankrupt - and invest a considerable sum into a development project in Africa.

One day a film crew is at the camp I volunteer at, and I get a leading role in their next movie. The publicity helps raising more money to feed many people in need. We invest in education, and the illiteracy rate drops year after year. I get elected secretary-general of the United Nations. My good friends Bob, Kofi and Ban support me in my efforts. With a little help from other friends we achieve world peace, and nobody goes hungry.

  5. As you so eloquently stated, life isn't about avoiding the storms, it's about learning to dance in the rain!
Incidentally, when I saw Bridget Jones for the first time, I was locked up in a hospital, suffering with major depression after being mistreated by a poor excuse for a human being. Hospital staff really should monitor what's being watched while people go crazy ;)
