20 Days of Chill - Thanks

It's Day 10 / 20 Days of Chill today!

Time to say

Thanks!

Thank you for being here and reading what I have to say.

It's been interesting to write for two different challenges. More to come!

More importantly though, for topical reasons...

Thank you, Alex Hawke for doing an excellent job canceling Novak Djokovic's visa. I applaud your balls!

Unlike my country (Switzerland) where only 69.4% of the citizens are fully vaccinated against Covid, Australia has a vaccination rate of  impressing 92.4%. These folks have had to make many sacrifices, and it's only fair that the same rules apply to a world-class tennis player and an everyday person.

Moreover, I don't want to imply that he (or his agent, or whoever filled in the forms) lied on purpose, but I feel they were certainly being somewhat economical with the truth.

In fact how stupid is it to check "no" to answer the question about having been to other countries before flying into Australia? The guy is on social media. He went home to Serbia for Christmas, he practiced in Spain - how can these not unimportant facts slip your memory?

Also, how stupid is it to claim you tested positive for Covid and appear in public on the following days? You can't present trophies and unveil your own personal postage stamp without anyone noticing.

Actually I don't know if it's plain stupid or arrogant and entitled.

Either way, I'm glad that the government wasn't impressed with the claims of "human error" and "I didn't want to let the journalist down".

Well done, mates!

Have a nice flight back, Novak.

Too bad you're not welcome to stay. You're missing out!

Wrapping up this post, here's how we were welcomed upon our first (and so far only) trip:

From our travels to the USA we were used to behave very formally and inconspicuously at immigration, and even though it was 4am when we landed in Darwin, and we were beyond tired, we remembered to play by the rules as we were standing in line to enter the country.
Everything went well. No interrogation, just a quick punch of the passports (our visas were 100% OK)! and we were officially in Down Under!

"First time here?" the customs officer asked. We nodded.

"Be careful, don't drink the water!" he advised hubby.

He was confused. Nobody had ever mentioned anything about the water not being OK in Australia. Was it unsanitary?

"Water is fine for taking a shower" the officer smirked, "otherwise drink beer, mate! Enjoy your stay!"

Hahahaha! What a glorious start to our journey!

  2. Thanks for the big smiles...both the "tell it like it is" depiction of the whole Djokovic debacle and the beer > water advice. :)

  3. I missed this post somehow, but we were all rather glad to see him go. There were quite a few versions of No Vax Djokes doing the rounds down here, lol.
