World Viewers

In recent months, three Austrians have been naturalized in my village without any red tape. The  men, dressed in orange, respectively blue, are "World Viewers" by profession, and their constant companion is a pair of binoculars.

What is this all about?

Members of our town's quarterly magazine I started working for, noticed that several buildings are guarded by such people.

To be precise, they are sculptures from Ottmar Hörl's "Weltanschauungsmodell" series of works, fifty of which appeared as part of a project in the city of Graz, Austria, in 2016. Today they can be ordered online.

During the art exhibition, they stood on bridges, took part in a municipal council meeting or made the vegetable market unsafe. Then they changed places and rode along in a bicycle basket, watched the students from the entrance to a university of applied sciences or climbed the city wall to get a better overview.

It clearly seemed as if they had come to observe and understand our world. I wonder what impressions they got of us humans? Did they cheer us appreciatively or shake their heads in despair?

We don't know. The fact is that the gentlemen attracted a lot of attention and got passers-by thinking and discussing.

What do you think? Are they on a mission?
