UBC January 2025 - Running Errands

December wasn't all about enjoying, of course it was also a super busy month at work, even though for once there was a vacation ban for everybody, meaning I didn't have to cover for my colleague.

One of my days off due to my working part-time, my to-do list was super long, and I felt stressed out:

Recycling ✅
Buy carrots 🥕 and mustard ✅
Buy tape ✅
Arrange for trash container 🫙 to be picked up
Starbucks Coffee ☕️ ✅
Skates: rounding, new laces ✅
Hair appointment ✅
Nakatomi Tower 140 x 37cm ✅
Get killer pies ✅
Video ✅
Address Labels ✅
Hitster ✅
Payroll ✅

The night before, on our way home from hockey practice, we had to follow a "winter service vehicle" on the freeway. You know the one that spreads salt on the road? Well, half of the salt stuck to my car, and now I had to add a trip to the car wash to my list.

As I pulled in, I was delighted to meet Frosty, the Snowman! He was delighted, too, about my choosing the GOLD program ;-)

I'd like to elaborate on some of my tasks, such as getting the killer pies.

On Wednesdays I like to go to the Jailhouse Store where they sell products that inmates have baked, cooked or crafted. Wine, yogurt, cookies, you name it. Wednesday is pie day, a good ten savoury and fruity varieties, and they are delicious. This is a picture I took in spring.

On that particular day in December, just as I pulled in, heavy rain set in.

A trip to Starbucks was on my list, too. it wasn't primarily for my personal pleasure, even though taking a coffee break did me some good. I went there to pick up a pack of beans for Jacqueline - remember, the lady from Secret Santa?

Usually I stop at the recycling center every other week to get rid of PET bottles, glass jars, cardboard and the like. This time a treat was expecting me: A Christmas tree, entirely made out of beer cans! So creative!

You may be wondering about the Nakatomi Tower on my to-do list. I wanted to recreate the "throw Hans Gruber out the window scene" with our elves, which of course was an invitation to watch Die Hard ;-)

Wrapping up this post, I'd like to throw in this statement:

Do you agree? I may have been guilty of it ;-)

  1. I love your last statement! LOL I too have to write lists or something will be left behind. Of course there is always something we either forgot or have to add. I love that you had Starbucks on your list, at least you had a bit of a refreshing time.

  2. What a fun post about your to-do list! I like to keep Starbucks on my errands list too :-) Very creative plan with the Nakatomi Plaza replica!

  3. to be honest, most of a woman's to-do items never actually make it to the list as we are responsible for so much. I am guilty of adding some of those items to my to do list after the fact just so I can cross it off and see how much I actually get accomplished in a day.

  4. Love this! You made errands hilarious—Frosty at the car wash and beer can tree? Brilliant. Those pies sound awesome!

  5. LOL! Yes, sometimes running errands involves candle-sniffing and exploring soft fabrics. Wow, you were busy that day!! I never want to have more than 3 or 4 errands in one day.
