Life enjoyed

Welcome back to another episode of A'lil Hoohaa's monthly photo blogging challenge.

This month’s theme is Life enjoyed.

The Grand Tour of Switzerland is a scenic road trip of about 1,700 km (a little over 1,000 miles) that connects the country’s most beautiful regions and highlights. Along the way you’ll find red Grand Tour photo spots (currently 88 of them), designated by Switzerland Tourism together with local tourism boards. These mark especially iconic or panoramic viewpoints that showcase Switzerland’s natural beauty or cultural heritage; think the Matterhorn or Château de Chillon.

Now, my photo here doesn’t stem from an epic road trip but from a chance discovery en route to a rather sobering appointment. We were meeting with a notary to go over documents every responsible couple should have in place: a will, powers of attorney for health care and finances, and the like. In a way, the picture symbolizes taking steps to prepare for the later chapters of life enjoyed.

Moving on!

In September, Colin’s team spent a long training weekend in Eastern Switzerland, complete with an exhibition game. Traffic was smooth enough that we could stop at a bakery whose motto reads: “We don’t just eat cake, we give calories a home.” And what a beautiful home it was!

A few months back I interviewed a forest-bird biologist for our town’s magazine. The piece was meant to spark interest in a guided walk, which finally happened this September. About 45 people joined (a great turnout in my book) and although fall isn’t peak birdwatching season, we did spot a woodpecker who reminded us that many species continue enjoying their lives in the woods before heading south.

One of my favorite early fall traditions is visiting the pumpkin patches at Jucker Farm. Each year they outdo themselves with a new theme. This time it was “Let’s Play”, complete with Super Mario, a Lego figure, dice, and other toys, all in pumpkin form. Since I couldn’t settle on one display, here’s a general impression of their glorious “regular” pumpkins.

Colin also turned 17 this month; hard to believe! His birthday wish was sushi, so off we went to celebrate.

And of course, here’s a bonus photo of the birthday boy, captured by my Mom.

I hope you enjoyed my five six - a heartfelt thank you to my blogger buddies, who are very much part of my “life enjoyed” even though we’ve never met in person!

As always, don’t forget to check out the posts from my fellow bloggers participating in this month’s challenge!
