Welcome back to another episode of A'lil Hoohaa's monthly photo blogging challenge.
This month’s theme was "Make your month loving".
Of course, those who celebrate Valentine’s Day could take their pick: romantic dinners, little gifts, flowers.
Me? I admired those things at the mall.
There’s a meme that says: “For dating couples, it’s Valentine’s Day. For parents, it’s Saturday… and someone has a game.”
One hundred percent accurate.
It was a home game against a team from the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland, and let me tell you — the opposing parents in the stands were not feeling the love. They shouted insults at our players, and when our team scored two quick goals near the end of the game, they got up and left the stadium. I found that extremely unsportsmanlike — and not exactly a show of solidarity with their own children.
We, on the other hand, especially my husband and I, had every reason to be proud of our team and of our son, Colin. He achieved something rare: he scored a shorthanded goal; meaning he scored while one of our players was in the penalty box and the other team had the advantage. The scene starts at 5:55 in the video.
The multi-purpose facility where I spend a significant portion of my life while Colin trains also tried to encourage a little romance this month. They designated a space in the food hall for people who are “up to date” (written in purple letters). I didn’t observe much activity there, though.
But they didn’t stop at subtle hints. A few days later, they set up a message board where people could leave notes for their significant others.
Someone wrote (in German), “Liebe geht durch den Magen.” In English, you might say, “The way to someone’s heart is through their stomach.” I tend to agree. So the closest thing to a homemade Valentine’s dinner was this Caprese salad.
I hope your month was as loving as it gets. As always, don’t forget to check out the posts from my fellow bloggers participating in this month’s challenge!
