Watcha eatin?

Welcome back to another episode of A'lil Hoohaa's monthly photo blog challenge. This month, PJ, our host, picked "Watcha eatin?" for us to interpret.

As soon as I read this prompt, I knew I was going to have the hardest time picking just five! So many ideas immediately coming up:

  • Five food groups
  • International cuisines
  • Breakfast, Snack, Lunch, Dessert, Dinner
  • One ingredient - five ways to prepare and serve
  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
  • Swiss specialties
  • Holiday dishes

Just to name a few.

I have to say, though, as easy as this prompt sounds, I think the challenging part is the quality of the actual photography.

I mean, I take a picture pretty much every time I eat something that looks and tastes great. However most of the times I am disappointed in the way the picture looks.

The background is not right, even tough I removed that water bottle, you can still see someone's phone or stuff. When some piece of meat is covered by sauce it can be too much and it looks like it's drowning. By the time dinner rolls around, the light is bad and there are shadows I don't like.  The list goes on.

I have a Facebook friend whose food pictures are particularly bad in my opinion. Unappetizing. Instead of shaming other people's pictures I should do better, though. Here goes:

I don't eat a lot of meat, especially at home. So when we go out I thoroughly enjoy a nice beef fillet. There's very few restaurants in your area that do it right - in my opinion. This one is at Hirschli and I had to cheat a little date-wise. The picture was taken on occasion of Colin's birthday a few weeks ago. Hey, this place is expensive, I can't go back just because of a blog challenge!

Same goes for Sushi. It's something I don't even try at home. Hubby doesn't even like it that much, so Colin and I have our go-to place at the mall, Yooji's. I can't decide what's cooler: the Sushi Train or the tablet that allows you to order your poké bowls and raw fish dishes "online" - even though the Sushi chefs are right there ;-)

Can you tell there's a bit of a pattern going on here? I feel like international cuisine is so much more colorful than the Swiss! Well, there's only so many ways cheese can look like ;-) I am usually too lazy to put together my own fajita, but Colin loves it. This was at The Porter House, a new place we visited prior to attending a concert a good friend played in.

I'd rather have my ingredients in one nice bowl. Unfortunately there are no Chipotle restaurants in Switzerland. The only place - Dean & David - that makes a chicken avocado bowl has the weirdest opening hours, so it's always a special treat when my schedule allows a visit.

Avocado is one of my favorite things to eat. So versatile and healthy - yet a pain to purchase and eat at the right time. This Mango avocado salad is my favorite thing to order all year round at Cha Cha Thai.

OK, I've been known to go overboard, because it always seems like five is not enough.

I already cut out the burger picture, but clearly a food post can't be complete without pizza. Agreed?

Living in Italiy's neighbour country we have countless Italian restaurants to choose from, and many of them make a delicious pizza. Here's a veggies version at La Deliziosa, run by a former banker. He may have harder and longer days, but I hope it's more rewarding to be an important part of people's lives by feeding them delicious food!?

Are you hungry yet?

Those were my five six, I hope you enjoyed them. For more posts please visit A 'lil Hoohaa's blog and check out the other contributions. See you next month!

  5. Oh my goodness, everything looks so yummy! I shouldn't be blog hopping for this theme just before supper time. Those two salad bowls look amazing. And fajitas are a family favourite, though they're so much work that they don't make it into the rotation very often.

  7. I love food photos so I knew this challenge would get some good posts. Nice work on this one. That steak at the top looks awesome. And your choices were so colorful. They say you eat with your eyes first.. and I can see where all of these would have been good!
